The Art of Omega Watchmaking
Watchmaking is an art which can be perfected only by the masters; and Omega is one of them. Since its establishment in 1848, Omega has continually made significant contributions to the art of watchmaking. The timepieces crafted by Omega brand are one of the finest and most expensive in the whole world.
Omega holds a very prestigious place in the world of watch craftsmanship. The brand even today continues to contribute to this profession by designing and engineering watches that are precious treasures and prized possessions for those who are lucky enough to own one. Omega ceaselessly proposes new inventions and always takes the lead in using the latest technologies. Omega has used different technologies for watchmaking which make it a unique brand and Co-Axial escapement is one of them.
In 1999, Omega introduced Co-Axial escapement that signaled a revolution in modern mechanical watchmaking. The components in Co-Axial escapement of Omega consists of
three pallets anchor, a balance roller carrying an impulse pin and a pallet, and a coaxial escapement wheel with the gearing/transmission pinion, the co-axial pinion as well as the co-axial wheel, to connect to the intermediary wheel and the gear train as well.
Silicon balance spring is an important and smallest component used in an Omega where the balance spring is the beating heart of watch. As silicon is non-magnetic, the balance spring or its performance is not disturbed by exposure to magnetic objects.
The Speedmaster line of Omega watches is used by NASA and is its ‘standard issue’ equipment for its astronauts on their space trips. It is the only watch trusted by NASA and hence, it is manufactured in such a way that it should not be affected by the changes in gravity and pressure in space.
Omega Seamaster is yet another watch that makes the brand special and unique. Seamaster is made to resist pressure and water and be as accurate and precise under water at deep depths, as it would work on land. The helium valve is one of its coveted properties.
